If you want

to work tirelessly to build a TED-like conference, to encourage the people around you to be more thoughtful, to show the world we can solve problems together, to bring different disciplines into the same room,

Then come learn with us. All disciplines are welcome to apply.

We are looking for

meaning creators
You want to, and can, increase meaning in people's lives in quirky and interesting ways.
story-tellers
You know how to spot a good story, and how to make poorly told stories better.
experience designers
You're always thinking about a person's experience. Whether it is in the world or on the web.
graphic designers
You love making things look pretty and have some experience under your belt.
generally awesome folks
You learned how to learn and love applying it to new projects.

Skills you need (or are willing to work on)

  • self-starter
  • ambitious
  • quality-freak
  • to-do-list-maker (and crosser-offer)
  • tech savvy
  • connected (social media, email, face-to-face)

Skills you might need

  • Adobe Creative Suite, Inkscape, or Gimp
  • HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and/or PHP
  • reliable connection to the web
  • photography and/or videography
  • accounting
  • logistics
  • writing copy
  • marketing

You also have to get coffee (only once) for that now-I'm-an-intern-moment.

For the interview, think about

  1. how a website can give meaningful interaction for a conference (e.g. before and after watching a presentation online)
  2. how a conference experience can be meaningful and productive for a diverse audience

All the technical bits:

Do I get paid?
Not money. (Sorry, we're a startup.) But, we'll cover various things like: some of your lunches, coffee, and you'll get into the conference for free. The main take-away from the internship is the experience building something amazing.
When is the internship?
From Sept. 1 (at the earliest) through April 1. Though, exceptions can be made.
About how many hours a week should I expect to work?
It will vary from week to week. Expect 5-20 hours. We'll work with you.
Can I get credit from my school?
Most schools offer internship credits. You will have to talk to your registrar or career services to see if you can get credit. We are happy to fill out any paperwork if need be.
Do I have to be enrolled in school?
Nope! This is open to anyone who wants to get their hands dirty.
Does this guarantee me a job?
No. But, this is a great resume builder (for us or someone else).

Wait, wait, wait, What is the What If...? Conference?

It's a series of 8 minute talks, put on by community members, students, faculty, and generally interesting people. It happens once a year. You might as well watch our video.
